Few views of Jerusalem's Temple Mount from this period carry the title *Mosque of Omar, shewing the site of the temple*, which points to the Dome of the Rock, the gilded-domed shrine that the subject headings also call Qubbat al-Sakhrah. Early European travelers often used "Mosque of Omar" for the building, a name that stuck in Western usage even though the shrine was completed in the late seventh century, long after the caliph Umar's time. This color lithograph was made after drawings David Roberts sketched on his travels in the Near East in the late 1830s and was printed by Louis Haghe for the London publisher F.G. Moon. It appeared in *The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt & Nubia*, a set that brought the region's monuments to a wide middle-class audience.
