Landings 8 and 9 sit within the steeple of the Old South Meeting House, a brick Puritan meetinghouse on Washington Street that the Old South congregation completed in 1729. Climbing the tower's stairs means passing through the upper parts of a building that was far more than a place of worship. In December 1773, thousands of colonists gathered inside to protest the Tea Act, and the meeting led to the Boston Tea Party. Preservationists later saved the structure from demolition, and it is now a museum within Boston National Historical Park.
