Old South Meeting House, a brick Puritan meetinghouse on Washington Street in Boston, is the subject of this architectural section, a drawing that cuts through the building to show its interior arrangement rather than its exterior face. Built in 1729 by the congregation of South Church, the building became a gathering place for colonial protest; in December 1773, crowds met here before the Boston Tea Party. The cutaway view is useful for seeing how the high box pews, galleries, and tall windows were organized around the pulpit.
