The Drexel Building, at the corner of Wall and Broad streets, housed the New York office of J.P. Morgan & Co. for many years, and this view records the firm's presence in the heart of the Wall Street financial district around the turn of the twentieth century. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this 8 by 10 inch glass negative, specialized in views of American cities, landscapes and landmarks, and its photographers often documented busy commercial streets like this one. The image is valuable for showing how the district looked before the taller office towers that later crowded the area.
