The making of automobile tops in Detroit, Michigan, is the subject of this stereograph, a pair of near-identical photographs mounted on a card for viewing through a stereo viewer. Detroit was then the center of the American auto industry, and fabric tops were a common feature on open cars of the period, so this work was a necessary step in finishing a vehicle. Keystone View Company, a firm that produced large numbers of stereo cards for home parlor viewers, copyrighted the image. Its caption dates it to June 22, c. 1917, though that date comes from the caption card and has not been independently verified.
