This glass negative shows Lt. Gen. Edwin C. Jadwin, identified in the record by the title the National Photo Company wrote on the negative, and dated October 3, 1929. Jadwin was an Army engineer, and a portrait like this one would have been made for official or press use in Washington, where the National Photo Company operated a large commercial studio. Its collection documents the capital's officials and events during the 1910s through the 1930s. The negative has visible streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, which is typical of glass plates from this period and adds to the sense of age in the image.
