Charles Lindbergh and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, are the subjects named in this record, photographed in September 1929, about four months after their May wedding. Lindbergh had become a national hero after his solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic in 1927, so public interest in the couple ran high. The picture is a glass negative from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that produced news portraits for newspapers and magazines. Faint streaks and blemishes are typical of the glass plates, whose coatings have deteriorated over time.
