Keep 'em flying" is the phrase that sets this 1942 recruiting poster apart, pairing a call to duty with a bomber and the American flag. Credited to Dan V. Smith and Albro F. Downe and issued by the United States Army Recruiting and Induction Service, it targeted men considering the Army Air Corps after the United States entered the Second World War in December 1941. Bombers were central to the war effort, and recruiters used them to show that aircrews and the ground crews who kept planes flying were essential to victory. The slogan "Do your part for duty, honor, country" reflects the patriotic language common to wartime recruiting.
