Machine guns form the subject of this 1917 Treasury poster, which asks Americans to keep their war savings pledge and direct their money toward the war effort. Casper Emerson Jr. designed the image, and the American Lithographic Company of New York printed it in color. It belongs to the wartime campaign for savings and bond purchases that followed the United States' entry into World War I in April 1917. The Treasury linked everyday thrift to the cost of weapons, presenting private saving as a direct way to help supply the troops.
