Few First World War posters mark a single day of public support as directly as this one, which announces a Serbia Day held in France on June 25, 1916. Serbia had been overrun by Central Powers forces in late 1915, and its army had retreated over the mountains of Albania to the Adriatic coast, so appeals on its behalf gave French civilians a way to show solidarity with an ally that had lost its territory. The two-color lithograph is signed by P. Mourgue and was made to promote the event, and it is catalogued in a printed checklist of the period's posters.
