The record gives this glass negative only a title, "Tournament," which the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and the title has not been verified. The company was a Washington, D.C., commercial studio that photographed the city and its people in the early twentieth century, and its negatives reached the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Because the date of 1923 is inferred from negatives in the same range, the event itself remains uncertain. Visitors should also notice the streaks and blemishes that come from the natural breakdown of the original glass plate coatings.
