Few details survive for this scene of two men and a woman standing in an open field, since the caption has rubbed away and their identities are unrecorded. The picture was made in 1923 on a glass negative, a format that dominated commercial photography until flexible film replaced it. It belongs to the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that documented the city and its residents in the early twentieth century. Viewers may notice streaks and faint blemishes, which come from the natural breakdown of the original coating on the glass.
