The only identifying detail this negative offers is its title, Sylvania, which the Bain News Service recorded on the glass or its caption card without independent confirmation. The name belongs to several American towns, so the record alone does not show which place or scene was meant. The picture belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of tens of thousands of glass negatives that the New York agency used to distribute news photographs in the early twentieth century, and it is worth viewing with that working-press purpose in mind.
