The only identifying detail here is the abbreviated name "Alb. Thomas," which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its caption card, and cataloguers have not verified it. One possibility is Albert Thomas, the French socialist politician who became the first director of the International Labour Office in 1919, but the record does not confirm that. The Bain News Service, a New York agency active from about 1900 into the 1930s, sold news photographs of public figures and current events to newspapers, so the sitter was most likely someone in the news when the picture was made.
