The jaunting car, a light two-wheeled carriage with side-facing seats for passengers, was a familiar sight on Irish roads and at scenic stops that drew visitors. This view belongs to the photochrom series, in which a black-and-white photograph was reproduced in color from a set of lithographic stones, one for each hue. The Detroit Publishing Company sold these prints in the United States, and its catalog numbering appears in the record. The soft, layered colors make the scene a pleasing record of late nineteenth-century travel.
