The Marent Gulch Trestle was a timber span on the Northern Pacific Railroad, shown in a wood engraving that appeared in Scientific American in 1883. Engravings like this carried news of western railroad works to readers in the East while the Northern Pacific was pushing its main line across the Rocky Mountains and the plains. Trestles let track cross deep ravines quickly, so they were a familiar feature of western lines during construction. The record comes from an old caption card and has not been fully verified, so the exact location of the gulch and the date of the structure remain uncertain.
