Timber snow sheds stretched along the Central Pacific near Cisco, in Placer County, roofing the track against the deep winter snow of the Sierra Nevada. On the Donner Pass route, such sheds kept trains and rails clear of drifts and avalanches that could otherwise close the line for weeks. The print is one half of a stereograph pair from the Gems of California Scenery series, and the Library holds only this half. Its caption information is unverified, so the date and exact site should be read with some caution.
