Anne Freud, the youngest of Sigmund Freud's six children, is the subject of this portrait, which comes from the Sigmund Freud Archives. Anne (1895-1982) followed her father into psychoanalysis but focused on children, and her 1936 book *The Ego and the Mechanisms of Defence* became a foundational text in ego psychology. She later ran wartime nurseries in London with Dorothy Burlingham, caring for children separated from their families. The record gives no date for the print, so its exact age is uncertain, but it documents a figure who shaped child psychoanalysis.
