Rafts on the Ocklawaha River in Florida set this card apart, with African American workers handling the logs on the water. The Ocklawaha flows through the north-central part of the state into the St. Johns, and rivers like it were used to float timber to mills and markets. Stereograph cards like this one carried two nearly identical photographs that a viewer's stereoscope fused into a single three-dimensional scene, and they were sold widely for home entertainment around 1900. The catalog notes that its caption information is old and unverified, so some details of the scene are uncertain.
