Captioned as Seminole Indians whose forefathers lived in the Everglades, this stereograph was made near Miami, Florida, around 1926. The Seminole are descended in part from Creek and other peoples who moved into Florida in the 1700s, and many of their ancestors stayed in the Everglades during the Seminole Wars of the 1800s rather than move west. By the 1920s, Miami was growing quickly, and Seminole families were increasingly seen by visitors and photographers, who often bought or produced stereo views like this one for home viewers.
