Hop picking in Washington's Yakima Valley is the subject of this stereograph, which shows members of the Yakama, then often called the Yakima, at work in the fields. Hops were a major crop in the valley by the early 1900s, and the seasonal harvest drew many workers, including Native families who came to pick the cones by hand. The card was issued by B.W. Kilburn of Littleton, New Hampshire, one of the most prolific stereoview publishers of the period, whose cards were meant to be viewed through a stereoscope at home. The date, c1904, comes from an unverified caption, so it should be read as approximate.
