This print shows Theodore Roosevelt standing on a set of steps, turned to the left, with his wife Edith and other members of the family at the wedding of their daughter Ethel in April 1913. Roosevelt had left the presidency in 1909, so the occasion drew a steady stream of press attention, and the photograph is one of the many family pictures that appeared in newspapers of the time. It was made by Bain News Service of New York, a commercial picture agency whose large collection of news photographs, now held by the Library of Congress, documents public life in the early twentieth century. The caption information is based on old, unverified card records, so the names and details should be read with that in mind.
