Theodore Roosevelt stands behind a desk in this half-length view, turned slightly to the left, with his assistant secretary, William Loeb, beside him. The portrait is credited to the Washington photographer B.M. Clinedinst, who made many official images of presidents in this period. The Library's record dates it to around 1902, with a May 17 date that the catalog itself marks as unverified. Loeb later served as Roosevelt's secretary, and the pairing suggests a working office setting rather than a formal state portrait.
