Theodore Roosevelt stands in a reviewing stand at the ceremonies for the Rochambeau statue in Lafayette Square, across from the White House. The bronze honors Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau, whose French army joined American forces at Yorktown in 1781, and it was made by the French sculptor Fernand Hamar. The photograph's approximate date of 1902 matches the years when the statue was unveiled, and the scene shows how the capital used such ceremonies to mark the Franco-American alliance of the Revolution.
