Seated at a table in three-quarter view and turned to the right, Theodore Roosevelt appears here in a working setting rather than a plain studio pose. The title's phrase "with cabinet" may refer to his official advisers or to a piece of furniture, and the record does not say which. The print is credited to photographer F.E. Huddle, who registered it for copyright, and its January 27, 1903 date comes from an old caption card that has not been verified. Roosevelt had taken office in 1901 after McKinley's assassination, and in these years he relied heavily on photographs to shape his public image.
