Dreamland was one of the most ambitious attractions on Coney Island's Surf Avenue, a whole park built around a theme of spectacle and electric light in the early 1900s. This glass negative, made by the Detroit Publishing Company around 1905, records the park during its first years, when crowds came for its towers, lagoons, and nighttime illumination. The company was best known for its color photochrom prints of American scenery, so this plate, which was later given to the State Historical Society of Colorado, is a useful document of how the resort looked to visitors at the time. Fire destroyed Dreamland in 1911.
