Two trapeze performers working high above the crowds at Dreamland make this stereograph stand out from the many Coney Island views on the board. Dreamland opened in 1904 as one of the resort's large, lavishly lit amusement parks, built to draw visitors with spectacle and daring acts. The card was issued by the H.C. White Company, a major stereograph publisher, and it was meant to be viewed through a stereoscope, which fused the two slightly different photographs into a single image with depth. Viewed that way, the aerial figures seem to hang in the air above the viewer.
