Few hotels in Puebla wear a name as plainly tied to travel as the Hotel Diligencias, which points to the stagecoaches, or *diligencias*, that once carried passengers in and out of the city. This view shows the veranda restaurant and the corridors that opened onto it, a layout typical of older Mexican inns built around courtyards and covered walkways. The photograph is attributed to William Henry Jackson, who made many views of Mexico in the 1880s and 1890s, when railroads were beginning to change how people moved through the country. The shaded, open-air dining space is worth noticing as a record of how such buildings were used before modern hotels replaced them.
