Issued in 1918 as a lithograph, this poster by Boardman Robinson makes a direct appeal to Americans to "save the Serbians from cholera," and its printed notes tie it to the Franco-Serbian Field Hospital of America, whose New York office was on West 30th Street. Serbia had endured severe epidemics of typhus and cholera during the First World War, while its medical services were stretched by fighting and displacement. Relief groups in the United States used posters like this one to raise money and supplies for hospitals and aid work abroad. Robinson, an artist known for his political and social illustrations, brought a stark, graphic style to the cause.
