Built as a footbridge across one of the city's canals, this suspension bridge is documented here through its plan, profile and ironwork details rather than a view of the finished structure. The sheet was drawn by the engineer G. Traitteur and engraved at the lithographic workshop of the Corps of Ways of Communication, a state engineering body whose presses produced technical drawings for builders and officials. The hand coloring separates the suspension chains, anchorages and deck framing so each element can be followed on its own. Such sheets were meant to explain the construction method as St. Petersburg expanded its river and canal crossings in the 1820s.
