The drawing sets out both the plan and the profile of the Panteleimon Bridge in Saint Petersburg, a chain suspension bridge over the Fontanka River. That makes it an engineering document as much as a picture, showing the span, the deck, and the chains that carried it. The bridge was among the earliest suspension bridges built in Russia, and the drawing reflects how new the technique was there in the 1820s. G. Traitteur, the engineer credited on the sheet, prepared the design, and the lithograph was engraved at the lithographic workshop of the communications department, by Ivanoff. The hand coloring gives the plates a finished, presentational quality typical of official publications of the period.
