The Panteleimon Bridge, shown here in a perspective view, crossed the Fontanka in Saint Petersburg and was among the early suspension bridges built in Russia. The sheet was drawn on stone by Beggrow and issued in a French-language series on communication routes, with the printing credited to Traitteur. The hand coloring on this copy brightens the chains and piers. Chain bridges that relied on iron rather than masonry arches were still a novelty in the 1820s, so a printed view like this one served as both a record of engineering progress and a showpiece for the city.
