Few parade pictures show a field tractor hauling a artillery piece down a city avenue, but this stereograph does, with the Victory Arch spanning the street ahead and the Flatiron Building rising behind it. The arch was a temporary structure erected in Manhattan for the homecoming celebrations after the First World War, when crowds lined Fifth Avenue to greet returning troops. The Flatiron, completed in 1902, was already one of the city's best-known landmarks, so its presence anchors the scene in a specific corner of Manhattan. Keystone View Company produced stereo cards like this for home viewers, who saw the street in three dimensions through a stereoscope.
