The title names the Minnehaha under sail, but the caption information behind it is unverified and the record gives no date, so the vessel's identity and route remain provisional. The picture belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, whose Bain News Service worked largely in New York, supplying newspapers with photographs of ships, crowds and news events. Glass negatives of this size were the standard tool of press photographers in the early twentieth century, so the plate offers a useful glimpse of how working passenger vessels appeared to the public then.
