The title points to the *Half Moon*, the ship Henry Hudson sailed up the river that now bears his name in 1609 while searching for a northwest route to Asia. Anniversary celebrations of that voyage often brought the name back to the water, most notably a replica built in the Netherlands and sailed to New York for the Hudson-Fulton Celebration in 1909. The record gives no date for this glass negative, and the title comes from notes the Bain News Service wrote on it, so the exact vessel is worth confirming. Even so, the picture shows how one ship's name could carry a long stretch of American history.
