The title names the Adriatic, a White Star Line ocean liner that entered North Atlantic service in 1907 and sailed between New York and Liverpool for nearly three decades. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption data written by the Bain News Service on the negative or its card. That data has not been independently verified, so the exact voyage shown is uncertain. Bain's photographers worked in New York in the early twentieth century, covering ships, the waterfront and news events, which makes the collection a useful source for maritime scenes of that era.
