Engraved for the August 1745 issue of *The American Magazine and Historical Chronicle*, this bird's-eye view shows Boston from an elevated vantage point, as if seen from above the rooftops. Rogers and Fowle, the printers of the magazine, sold the sheet from their shop on Queen Street, next to the town prison. Boston was then among the largest and busiest seaports in British North America, and views like this gave readers in the colonies a way to picture a town many would never visit. The catalog record also carries subject headings on Native American subsistence and the Revolution, which were added by cataloguers rather than drawn by the engraver.
