Few events in colonial Boston were retold as often as the shooting on King Street on March 5, 1770, when British soldiers fired into a crowd and killed five colonists, Crispus Attucks among them. This wood engraving carries that story in a form meant for print, though the caption card gives no date. Paul Revere's 1770 engraving of the incident circulated widely and helped turn the event into a rallying point for the patriot cause. Images like this one kept that story alive for later readers, and wood engraving, which let text and pictures share a printed page, was a common method for illustrated newspapers and books in the 19th century.
