Paul Revere's engraving shows the scene in front of the Customs House on King Street, the building that now houses the Old State House museum in Boston. It depicts the evening of March 5, 1770, when British soldiers fired into a crowd of colonists and killed five men, including Crispus Attucks. Revere based the print partly on a sketch by Henry Pelham and published it within weeks, shaping how colonists across the colonies understood the event. Its orderly rows of soldiers and calm, tidy street reflect its purpose as political propaganda rather than a neutral record.
