A detailed working drawing of the cornice and ceiling for the Hall of Representatives, the chamber in the Capitol's south wing, shows how the room was to be finished. The inscriptions on the front record that a full-size copy went to William Blagden on August 19, 1815, and a half-size version on February 5, 1816, so the sheet was part of the back-and-forth between the architect's office and the man supervising the building's work. The chamber was being rebuilt after British troops set fire to the Capitol in 1814, and Benjamin Henry Latrobe, who oversaw the reconstruction, drew these plans. The paper's back is covered by a lining and a section is missing, so the sheet is worth studying for its construction notes as much as its design.
