Toy horses take center stage in this 1938 silkscreen print, which pairs a Christmas theme with the hobby horse, a stick-mounted toy that was a common sight in the 1930s. The image comes from the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, which employed artists during the Depression to design posters and prints for public use. Silkscreen was the technique the program relied on to produce bright, color work in multiple copies at modest cost. Christopher DeNoon's book *Posters of the WPA* documents the series.
