A Spanish-language lithograph from 1937 speaks directly to a soldier, warning him not to yield to drink because his cause and his life are at risk. It was issued by the health service of the Spanish army, which ran campaigns on hygiene and the dangers of alcohol among troops during the Civil War of 1936 to 1939. Posters like this were printed in quantity and displayed in barracks and public places, so they reveal how the Republican side tried to shape soldiers' habits as part of the wider struggle. The catalog notes point to a flame motif and a bold color palette, which give the warning a striking, graphic urgency.
