Few posters from the Spanish Civil War state their argument as bluntly as this one, whose title, *Esto es el fascismo!* ("This is fascism!"), reads as an accusation. Its subjects include the swastika and civilian casualties, pointing to the German and Italian support that helped Francisco Franco's Nationalist forces, a link many Republican supporters stressed at the time. The poster was issued by Socorro Rojo Internacional, the International Red Aid, a left-leaning relief network that aided war victims and political prisoners. Its color offset lithography and the flame motif show how such groups used inexpensive, widely distributed prints to raise money and sympathy abroad.
