The poster's headline claims that Catalonia defeated fascism in 24 hours, a boast tied to the military rising of July 1936 that Barcelona's workers and militias helped turn back within about a day. Esquerra Republicana de Cataluña, the Catalan republican party, issued this color offset lithograph in 1936, and it was printed across several sheets for display at a large scale. It belongs to a wave of Republican propaganda that carried the message of resistance through the Spanish Civil War, which lasted until 1939. The Library of Congress holds three of the four original sheets.
