Dated to the first anniversary of the July 1936 military uprising, this Madrid poster is titled "Julio 1936-julio 1937" and urges people to be "united in the rear as at the front to win the war." Printed in 1937 under the Ministerio de Propaganda, the Republican government's propaganda office, the color lithograph pairs a military figure with symbols such as the flame, linking civilians in the cities to soldiers in the field. Posters like this were pasted on walls to rally support during the Spanish Civil War, which began when army units rose against the elected Republic.
