Taken from the International Bridge, this view looks out over the Niagara River toward the falls, and the record names both the New York and Ontario shores, a reminder of how the bridge linked the two countries. The negative is an 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate, a large format that commercial photographers used for detailed views before roll film became common. It came from the Detroit Publishing Company, which sold scenic views of American and Canadian travel destinations in the early 1900s. Glass plates like this one were the source material for the company's prints, postcards and printed albums.
