The most distinctive feature of this 1883 color lithograph is its image of the Statue of Liberty, with scenes from the production printed above it. The statue was still years from its 1886 dedication, so the poster presents it as a new spectacle for New York audiences. The poster was issued under the names of Imre and Bolossy Kiralfy, Hungarian-born brothers who became known for large-scale theatrical productions in the late 1800s. Their advertising posters, like this one, combined bold lettering with pictorial scenes to draw crowds to the stage.
