Here the star is De Wolf Hopper, billed in the comic opera *Wang*, with a libretto by J. Cheever Goodwin and music by Woolson Morse. The color lithograph was printed by the Gillin Print Company of New York and issued under the De Wolf Hopper Company's management in 1897. Its catalog subjects point to a Chinese character, a cross-dressing role, and smoking, all features of the stage comedy and stereotyped portrayals popular on American stages at the time. Hopper went on to a long career in comic theater, and posters like this one helped sell his productions to city audiences.
