Few views of the Grand Canyon from this era show the interior of a building rather than the rim itself, which makes this stereograph of the recreation hall at Grand Canyon Lodge worth a closer look. The lodge, built on the North Rim, was a gathering place for visitors who arrived by automobile or stage on the long, rough roads into the park. Keystone View Company sold stereo cards like this one as parlor entertainment, so the scene was meant to be viewed in pairs through a hand viewer and give the sense of stepping into the room. The date printed on the card is unverified, so the exact year is best treated as approximate.
