The lounge at Grand Canyon Lodge is the focus of this stereo card, a view of the public room in a building that opened on the North Rim in 1928. Architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood designed the lodge for the Utah Parks Company, a Union Pacific subsidiary, and its rooms were built of local stone and timber with large windows that looked out over the canyon. Keystone View Company produced stereo cards like this one for home viewers using hand stereoscopes, which gave the room a sense of depth and presence. The date, given as c1929, comes from the caption card and has not been independently verified.
